Friday Night Live: Uncle Kunkel’s One Gram Band

Uncle Kunkel’s One Gram Band is a Baltimore-based music group that originated at Salisbury University in 2019. Playing an original catalog of high energy funk-rock music, the band delivers a show packed with danceable grooves, eclectic lyrics, memorable covers and occasional crowd participation.

Community Tree Planting Event
Truitt Street Community Center Salisbury, MD, United StatesWe have big news!! YEAS Ambassadors have been hard at work to bring a tree planting to the Truitt Street Community Center and we’re finally ready to share our planting date far and wide: JOIN US on Saturday, May 4th starting at 10am to plant trees that contribute to Maryland’s 5 Million Trees Initiative 🌳!! We’ll have other things going on as well like a trash clean up around the neighborhood and a picnic lunch starting a little after noon. Come for the service learning hours and stay for the connection to our community and the environment!
Poplar Hill Mansion Festival
Poplar Hill Mansion Elizabeth St, Salisbury, MD, United StatesCome to the award-winning Annual Poplar Hill Mansion Festival as we celebrate the Federal Period history of Salisbury! The day long festival will include War of 1812 re-enactors: Chesapeake Independent Blues, live dancing and music featuring the Dover Country Dancers, educational displays, a children's activity area with crafts and games, Community Curator's Tent, and a May Pole to celebrate May Day. There will also be a Market Square with vendors selling handcrafted items on the street in front of the Mansion. It’s sure to be a fun filled day! Tours of Poplar Hill Mansion will also be available throughout the day and volunteers will be wearing period dress. This is a FREE event with parking located in the Bethesda Methodist Church parking lot on the corner of Division St. and Isabella St. in the Newtown Neighborhood.
Poet’s Corner – Celebrating Mothers
Salisbury Headquarters 115 S. Division St, salisbury, United StatesJoin Salisbury’s Arts, Business and Culture Department and City of Salisbury Poet Laureate Nancy Mitchell for a night of poetry outdoors at Unity Square on Thursday, May 9, from 6-8 p.m.
This is part of a second Thursday series from March-June.
The guest poet is Sharnell Tull, aka Sista Big.

Moving Matters for Mental Health – Community Walk
The Moving Matters Initiative was developed to provide opportunities for individuals to increase their activity levels in order to improve their overall wellbeing. This year Moving Matters also wants to raise awareness around emotional wellbeing and decrease the stigma related to mental illness. Join us by signing up for our one or more of events!
The MOVE4WELLNESS CHALLENGE is a fun and easy way to help more people increase their activity levels. The Challenge is self-paced and will last from April 29-May 13, 2024. You can participate no matter where you are located! The Registration deadline is April 28! There will be prizes for those with the most steps and activity by the end of the event!!!
For those who want to move and publicly raise awareness around mental health issues, join us at our walks! The Moving Matters for Mental Health Campus Walk is scheduled to be held on Friday, May 3, 2024 from 2pm-5pm at Salisbury University (The Square). There is also The Moving Matters for Mental Health Community Walk which will be held on Saturday, May 11, 2024 from 12pm-4pm at the Salisbury City Park (Rotary Pavilion).

Based out of Charlotte, N.C., songwriter/keyboardist/producer Joe May, known for his work with Pluto Gang, has released his debut solo album and has built a high-energy live show featuring established local musicians. May has launched headfirst into this new act, with tens of thousands of streams and packed rooms arriving just as quickly as the project was announced.

Stephen Amoruso (bass/vocals), Jamaal Farrow (drums), and Kristian Lietzan (guitarist/singer/songwriter) configure the emotional folk-and-roll band of Virginia Man. With poetic lyrics bellowing over the sounds of middle Appalachia, these gentlemen champion the sound of their homeland: a strange suspension between the cardinal directions, musical genres, and the changing of seasons.

Downtown Salisbury MD, United StatesGet artsy in Downtown Salisbury on Friday, July 19, from 5-8 p.m. for 3rd Friday | Urban Artscapes. Enjoy arts and crafts vendors, shop at local businesses and enjoy live music by Billy Zee on the Plaza and Sympaticocious at Unity Square. Participate in urban printmaking and watch artists as they do plein air painting.

Medium Wave Jay is a musician that lives on Chincoteague Island, Va. and plays a wide variety of styles presented in a unique and branded way. His song selection is very diverse, consisting of a lot of '80s and '90s songs, but not limited to them. Blues, hard rock, and some country tunes are peppered in to an already eclectic song list. He has an interesting vocal timbre with ranges from breathy to powerful.
