Anastasia Samoylova Artist Talk and Book Signing

October 17 @ 5:30 pm - 7:00 pm

Anastasia Samoylova, whose work is in the Fall group exhibition “On Water” at SU Art Galleries | Downtown, will be talking about her work and signing her new book FloodZone on Thursday, October 17th at 5:30 pm.

Floodzone is a photographic account of life on the climatic knife-edge of the southern United States. Sea levels are rising and hurricanes threaten, but this is not a visualization of disaster or catastrophe. These beautifully subtle and often unsettling images capture the mood of waiting, of knowing the climate is changing, of living with it.

Anastasia Samoylova (born in Moscow; lives in Miami) moves between observational photography, studio practice and installation. She will present a solo exhibition of her ongoing project FloodZone at USF Contemporary Art Museum, Tampa in January 2020. With over 80 photographs, the book of the project will be published by Steidl in September 2019. Recent exhibitions include Museum of Contemporary Photography Chicago, Purdue University, Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, Griffin Museum of Photography, Foley Gallery New York and Aperture Foundation New York. Her work is in the collections at the Perez Art Museum Miami, Museum of Contemporary Photography Chicago, and ArtSlant Collection in Paris.

The event is free and open to the public. SU Art Galleries | Downtown is located at 212 W Main Street Suite 201.
