JUNE 21 – ANIMAL KINGDOM!

June 21, 2019 is the next 3rd Friday in Downtown Salisbury.  3rd Friday will be held outdoors -weather permitting -with artists and crafters filling the streets, live music on the Plaza.  This month’s theme is Animal Kingdom– so grab a leash, and the pooch- and head on Downtown! 

Again this month, 3rd Friday will have a new footprint.  Artists and crafters will still gather on the Plaza – but the rest of the fun is moving down to Lot 15 and W. Market Street, in front of The Acorn Market and Angello’s Unique Gifts.  There you will find the Look Pretty Play Dirty Mobile Petting Zoo plus more special activities like a bounce house, the Bookmobile, a Purple Puppy Parade and more! 

Just for “Dog Month” – Fetch Dog Companywill be hosting a Purple Puppy Parade – to support opioid addiction awareness, treatment and prevention as Wicomico Goes Purple!  The Wicomico Goes Purplecampaign will be partnering with a multitude of businesses, organizations and events this summer to bring awareness to the opioid epidemic – with information, support -and a tag line -awareness starts at home.  Limited edition purple doggy bandannas will be available at Fetch and 3rd Friday, and its the perfect accessory for your pup for the parade – so get yours! 

Purple pups can participate in the parade, plus other pageant categories include best dressed, best trick, and most purple! Participants can also nab fun temporary tattoos and tie dye their own bandannas.  Press conference on Plaza at 5:15 p.m. Bring your dogs out for a great cause! 

On the Plaza, there will be live music by Harvey Allen Jams, bringing a healthy dose of rock, funk, jazz and pop. Simply Salisbury will be open with special sales on animal plushies and pet accessories!  Meet local animal organizations like the Eastern Shore Rabbit Rescue and the Delmarva Cat Connection.  

St. Peter’s Episcopal Church will host their annual Blessing of the Animals at 5:15 p.m., 6:00 p.m. and 7:00 p.m., plus burgers & hot dogs, snacks & drinks and fun stuff for the kids.  

Just around the corner, at SWAC, check out Open Mic Night with Amber Green and Jamaad Maadist Gould – where all are welcome to showcase their talents – play an instrument, recite poetry, sing, dance, or just be a supportive audience member.

In the Gallery Building, on the lowest level –Salisbury Art Space will host its annual photography exhibition “Through the Eye of the Lens” complete with “Community: Individuals United Through Storytelling” a moving solo exhibition by Salisbury native Daniel Weaver.  

Upstairs on the Plaza Level, Salisbury University Art Galleries | Downtown Campuswill be hosting the opening reception for“Carl Goldhagen:  The Long View- Selected Works 1970s to the Present”.  Carl Goldhagen, who taught at SU from 2003 to 2017, has maintained studios in NYC since the late 1970s and in Girdletree, MD, since 2010. 

The downtown bars and restaurants are ready with live music for 3rd Friday.  Brew River is hosting the Parrotheadz Party with The Beach Bumz Jimmy Buffet tribute band from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m.  Roadie Joe’s Bar and Grill will live music on the patio with Smooth and Remy from 6 – 9 p.m. and late-night rock band Queen’s Bishop.   Market Street Inn will has new specials and late night jams with DJ Juan.

In the event of rain – all indoor activities will go on as planned.  The outdoor activities, including art and craft vendors, may be canceled due to inclement weather – an announcement will be made no later than noon on 3rd Friday.  

3rd Friday is a downtown economic development initiative and a project of the Salisbury Arts & Entertainment District in partnership with The City of Salisbury.   

To be a vendor at 3rd Friday you must be an artist, crafter or non-profit organization, and you must pre-register by emailing a description of what you hope to set-up to 3rdFridaySby@gmail.com
